1. Introduction & Data Collection
AskYourDoctor is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your health data. We collect health information that you explicitly choose to provide or import into the app. This includes:
- Data from Apple Health: Characteristics, vitals, lab results, clinical notes, immunizations, self‑reported symptoms, activity, body measurements, conditions, procedures, sleep, respiratory, nutrition and mental well‑being.
- User input: PDF documents, pasted text and scanned images (via OCR).
We only access data for which you grant explicit permission.
User consent and control: For data accessed from Apple Health, you must explicitly grant permission for each type of health data the app requests to read or write. This granular permission model ensures you have control over your health information. You can revoke these permissions at any time through your device's Health app settings.
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data powers personalised insights, doctor‑ready questions and AI‑assisted discussions. User‑provided pictures of lab results or PDFs are converted to text via Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which is processed on‑device. Your Apple Health data remains on your iPhone.
When you choose to use AI features, only the specific text or text extracted from images or PDFs you select is prepared and sent for a response. Only the text shown in the Shared Data tab and any text you type in the Chat tab are sent to OpenAI for analysis.
We do not access, process or store your personally identifiable health information (PHI) on our servers; transient data is cleared when the app restarts or is terminated. When data is transmitted for AI features, it is encrypted in transit and used solely to generate the reply — not to train models.
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not share your identifiable health data with any third parties for marketing or other commercial purposes without your explicit consent.
- AI integration (OpenAI Business API): When you use Ask Questions or Chat, only the data you select for that interaction is sent to OpenAI. Before sending, PDFs or images undergo best‑effort de‑identification (PII removal) and the extracted text is shown to you for verification. Apple Health imports contain no direct identifiers. Data is sent encrypted in transit and used only to produce the reply.
- No model training: OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default. We do not opt in to training.
- Abuse‑monitoring logs: By default, OpenAI may retain certain abuse‑monitoring logs up to 30 days.
- No web search with PHI: We do not use OpenAI Web Search with your PHI.

4. Your Rights
You can view, delete or export any processed data at any time within the app. Closing the app will remove all in‑memory data, effectively deleting it from the app's current session. Data stored in Apple Health remains under your control in the Health app.
5. Children’s Privacy
This app is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect or process data from minors.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the app. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
